Finding and Falling For A Moroccan Girl

Morocco sits on the coast of North Africa, just across the Strait of Gibraltar from mainland Europe.

It has a population of approximately 4 million people, and despite its outward appearance, is a very modern country, although Moroccans hold strong to their traditions.

Desert caravans equipped with mobile phones and laptops aren’t an unusual sight here. Morocco is also a predominantly Muslim country, although it feels far more like a secular Middle Eastern country i.e. everyone is chilled about the religious stuff.

The women of Morocco exude the influences of the Middle East, Spain, Portugal and France, all rolled into one. From a male perspective some of the most beautiful women in the world live in this cultural melting pot.

Morocco can be a great place to meet single girls because it’s not as popular a destination as Vietnam or Latvia for guys actively looking for an overseas girlfriend, or wife.

Plus there’s also the fact that Moroccan women are actively looking to meet guys from Europe or North America.

Moroccan women embody the mystique of North Africa, with looks and bodies that wouldn’t look out of place at a Parisian fashion show. There’s a touch of the djinn about them, and this is exactly what makes them so attractive.

Dating A Moroccan Girl

Meeting and dating a girl from Morocco isn’t going to be a huge challenge. In fact, you’ll find that even though it’s a Muslim country girls have zero problems just walking right up to you and making conversation.

You obviously need to be smart about this and separate the curious locals from the “comfort” women – the latter being interested only in how much cash you’re carrying.

Morocco is a Muslim country, but you’d never think that when you look at the girls here. The hijab and niqab have been dumped for tight jeans, and other “kuffar” styles of clothing.

It’s not that Moroccan girls don’t follow Islam, they just don’t do it in an unhealthy way.

They embrace their religion, respecting it but also keeping an open mind. So they are Muslims, but not in a strict, ultra-conservative way.

This is also why girls from Casablanca, Marrakech, and other major Moroccan cities have no problem dating Europeans, or North Americans – even you Canadian guys are looked upon favorably.

Another bonus of dating women here is that big age differences are pretty common throughout their culture, so it’s not unusual for an older man to marry a far younger woman.

We’ve said it before: Arab parents care more about the man being able to provide for their daughters, than how old he is, or what he looks like.

Unlike Western girls you’ll find that your Moroccan date makes a real effort to enjoy her evening with you, combining charm with a winning sense of humor. They do expect you to behave like a gentleman though, and when you do they’ll return the favor by treating you like a king.

You will be expected to pay for meals, and drinks afterwards too. This doesn’t mean Moroccan women are cheapskates; they’ve just lived sheltered lives, and are accustomed to men doing this for them.

If, however, you’re looking for the type of woman you can dominate in a relationship then you can pass on North African girls. Your new Moroccan girlfriend will have no issue with asserting herself from the very start of your relationship, but in a positive way.

You can expect her to become your best friend, and your wife, if you’re lucky enough for that to happen.

The majority of Moroccan girls work hard to stay toned and firm, but this isn’t a fitness routine – they just want to look their best.

Moroccan parents expect their daughters to preserve their virginity until they get married, but Moroccan women have found ways around this.

Why do they want foreign boyfriends and husbands? Simply because a certain percentage of Muslim men can be very domineering, and the girls don’t find out just how good or bad their husband is until the arranged marriage is completed.

Dating a Western guy means you’ll see them as being an equal, and not a second class citizen.

Marrying A Moroccan Girl

You won’t have to wait long for her to bring the subject of marriage up – she’ll be the first to start this conversation with you. Just be aware that when you marry a Moroccan girl you are literally marrying her entire family.

That’s not an exaggeration either, so don’t be surprised when she starts talking about getting a visa for her mother and father. That will be followed with a discussion about when they can move in with you. Moroccan families are very tightly knit, so be prepared for this.

You’ll need to gain the respect, and approval, of her entire family before you propose to her.

While it’s important to make a good impression on the women in her family, you absolutely must make a strong impression on her father, brothers and uncles. Men are the real decision makers in most Moroccan families.

Just remember, if she’s a devout Muslim the only way you’ll ever get permission to marry her is to convert to Islam. We know plenty of guys who have done this successfully, so unless you’re a devout Christian there’s no real reason for you not to consider converting.

Visiting Morocco

beautiful and colorful streets in Morocco

So what destinations should you add to your travel itinerary? Here’s a quick list of cities you might want to consider visiting in your search for a Moroccan girlfriend.

Casablanca

Casablanca City, Morocco

Yes, this is the same city from the famous Humphrey Bogart movie, and there’s even a bar here modeled after the bar in the movie – it’s aptly named “Rick’s Café”. Casablanca is the largest city in the country, and is also the economic and business hub of Morocco.

You’ll often hear people complain about the lack of nightlife here, but that’s only because they never looked closely enough to find out more.

If you want a more laid back atmosphere, with no dress code, and the potential for “female company”, then Cafe des Negociants is worth a visit.

Rick’s Café is the bar we mentioned earlier, and it’s a pretty nice place to spend your night – there’s even a pianist to keep you entertained.

If you want somewhere a bit more up-market then check out Spasso – a bright, modern bar with a better class of customer. You could also check out Picasso Bar, or Le Diplomate Bar for a bit of variety.

Alcohol is expensive no matter where you drink!

Marrakesh

Land of God, Marrakech, Morocco

This is a city unique in North Africa because it borders with the Sahara Desert, but has snow-covered mountains too. Marrakesh is the third largest city in the country, and is a hugely popular tourist attraction thanks to the sprawling souks (markets).

Marrakesh is as famous for its food as anything else, so you’ll need to pay at least one visit to the street vendors of Djemaa El-Fna while you’re here.

Nightlife is plentiful too. Cafe Arabe is a bit hipper than other bars in Marrakesh, with interesting clientele. The Chesterfield Pub tries to be an English pub, but gets it completely wrong – the beer is still good though.

The fire pit at Narwama always attracts a big crowd, and they also serve great food. If you want female company then stick around African Chic and Paradise later in the evening.

Montecristo is another bar worth having a few drinks in, especially if you want to get to know some local girls a bit better.

Tangier

Tangier, City of Morocco

This city is located on at the northern tip of Morocco and is just s short ferry ride away from Spain.

This is a beautiful city with lots of stuff to keep you busy, including historic sites and great beaches, plus some of the better clubs are located near the beaches.

Late night drinks can be had at The Tanger Inn, which only opens from 10 pm to 2 am each day. Club 555 and Dean’s Bar are also worth checking out.

Just pay attention for any girls who are being overly friendly – there’s a good reason for that!

Language Barriers

official language of Morocco

The official language of Morocco is Arabic, although because the country is so liberal you’ll find English is spoken by enough people for you to manage without learning a local dialect.

If you’re going to learn Arabic before coming here then make sure it’s Moroccan Arabic (Darija) and not Modern Standard Arabic. French and Spanish are also spoken here, although not as widely as Moroccan Arabic.

You’ll find that most Moroccans are at least bilingual.

Money

Moroccan Dirham

The currency here is the Moroccan dirham (MAD), and is a closed currency, which means you can’t buy it outside Morocco, and it’s also illegal to take it out of the country.

The 20 dirham note is the most versatile, and stops you from being overcharged or shortchanged by taxi drivers, and street vendors who saw you coming a mile away.

You are expected to tip everyone here for everything they do – a system referred to as baksheesh. Just make sure that you have plenty of small notes to “tip” these people. A budget of $150 (1,400 dirham) will cover your food, sightseeing and accommodation for one day.

Never carry large amounts of cash with you, especially considering that everything in Morro is very affordable, with the exception of alcohol. Muggings are rare, but don’t make yourself a target by carrying more cash than you need to.

Safety Tips

man having a vaccination

Make sure your travel vaccinations are up to date before visiting Morocco. The shots you need to check on include diphtheria, tetanus, measles, rabies, typhoid, and Hepatitis A and B. These vaccinations don’t mean you’re constantly at risk of infection while in Morocco.

In fact, you usually won’t have to worry about anything worse than an upset stomach, but it’s best not to take any chances.

Also, you should never travel to any country in North Africa without health insurance cover. Ideally you’ll never need it, but if you do you’ll find that private hospitals are few and far between, so you’ll need health insurance to get you admitted to one.

Tap water is safe to drink in many places, but stick to bottled water if you want to avoid any unpleasantness.

Street crime isn’t a major problem, but do pay particular attention to people offering to be your “guides” or to help you to find your hotel because you’re “lost”.

There are dozens of minor scams running, but most of the time they’re looking for cash to just leave you alone.

Muggings can happen late at night if you’ve strayed off the beaten track, so stick to areas you recognize. Also only go out socially with people you already know – never accept an offer of drinks from a Moroccan man or woman you’ve just met.

Getting There

Morocco has an “open sky” policy for European airlines, so there are no restrictions on any of the budget European airlines landing here. Your passport must be valid for at least six months before you are permitted to enter the country.

Visitors from other countries generally don’t need a visa if they plant to stay in Morocco for less than 90 days, but please do check with your local embassy in advance of your trip. If you’re from sub-Saharan Africa, or from Israel you’ll need to apply for a special visa to visit Morocco.

There are direct flights to Morocco from throughout Europe, the Middle East and North America. At worst you can fly from the United States, or Canada, to the UK and get a connecting flight from there to either Mohammed V International Airport (Casablanca) or Menara airport (Marrakech).
