This month’s academic corner will focus on the issue of ‘scams’ within the premium international dating market.

My interest in the international dating industry began when I started to read early articles about the topic in my graduate studies. I was intrigued by the spreading of online dating to a global platform and the new types of relationships created through the use of technology.

Far too many men have no idea what IMBRA is or why matter to them and that can lead to huge headaches, at least for American men.  IMBRA or the International Marriage Broker Regulation Act of 2005 was enacted to protect foreign women from falling into abusive relationships and address visa fraud that sometimes occurred under the guise of international dating.
