Moldova Girls

“Moldova?  Is that really a country,” people sometimes ask.   Yes and there are a lot of sexy Moldovan girls who would tell you that right in a heartbeat, well except for the ethnic Russian and Ukrainian brides that would like to secede from Moldova.

Part of the reason for that tension is that the Moldova girls tend to see themselves as a Latin people, related to Romanians, as opposed to a Slavic people like the Russians and Ukrainians.  Moldova's Latin heritage dates to the Roman occupation of Dacia (present-day Romania, Bulgaria, and Serbia), ca. A.D. 105-270, when a culture was formed from the intermingling of Roman colonists and the local population.  So, Moldova girls are more likely to feel connected to the West compared to Ukrainian or Russian girls.

After a weakened Roman Empire withdrew its troops in A.D. 271, a number of groups passed through the area, often violently: Huns, Ostrogoths, and Antes. The Bulgarian Empire, the Magyars, the Pechenegs, (whoever they were) and the Golden Horde (who certainly had a memorable nickname) also held sway over the area from time to time. In the thirteenth century, Hungary expanded into the area and established a line of fortifications in Moldova.  Finally, an independent Moldovan principality was established in 1349. So, it obvious that Moldova girls had it pretty rough during those years and really things did not necessarily look up for another 700 years.

During the late 1400s, all of southeastern Europe came under increasing pressure from the Ottoman Empire, and Moldova succumbed to Ottoman power in 1512 and was a tributary state of the empire for the next 300 years. Despite paying hefty tribute to the Ottoman Empire and eventually allowing the Ottoman sultan to select their rulers, Moldova suffered repeated invasions by Turks, Crimean Tatars, and Russians throughout the Ottoman period.  Worst of all the most beautiful Moldovan women sometimes ended up being taken to serve as harem girls for the Sultan and other Ottoman potentates.

Eventually, Moldova came under Russian rule, starting in 1792, and the 19th century was pretty good for Moldova women.  There were fewer wars, invasions, and plagues, and only a tiny chance that a beautiful Moldovan bride would be kidnapped and sold as a harem slave.

Sadly, the twentieth century was not kind to Moldovan women.  Like the rest of Eastern Europe Moldova girls suffered heavily in both world wars and were ruled from time to time by Nazis, Communists, and Romanians before finally becoming independent from Russia in 1991.

Today Moldova is one of the poorest nations in Europe and it has one of the highest percentage of net migration leaving the country of any place in the world.  So, there are a lot of beautiful Moldova girls would like the chance to move to a country with better opportunities.

Because the country is so poor it is not too expensive to visit Moldovan brides.  However, it is not necessarily as easy to get to as most other countries in Eastern Europe.
